Super Mario 64 was the first 3D platformer released in the Mario series for the Nintendo 64. It was released in Japan on June 23, 1996, September 29, 1996 in the U.S.A., March 1, 1997 in Europe, and March 1, 1997 in Australia. It was one of the two launch titles for the Nintendo 64, along with Pilotwings 64.
The game was originally in production for the Super Famicom or Super Nintendo Entertainment System outside of Japan, but moved to the Nintendo 64 after limitations proved very hassling. This game revolutionized the 3D genre, but it was not the very first 3D game released. A second version of the game was released in Japan, which includes Rumble Pak support.
A sequel to Super Mario 64 2 was in production for the Nintendo 64DD. It was cancelled because of the popularity and failure of the system.
Story/Plot[]
The plot of this game is very similar to that of the Nintendo DS remake Super Mario 64 DS. The Princess sends Mario a letter, like this:
Peach sends Mario a letter saying that she invited him to the castle, so Mario went to the castle. However, Bowser took her. He scattered the Power Stars everywhere, but Bowser forgot to lock the door, so now Mario is infiltrating his hideouts.
